Bastille Day - Invitation for French Residents in Ireland to French Embassy

On the 14th of July, French residents living in Ireland are invited to celebrate the national holiday at the French Embassy on Ailesbury Road, Dublin 4. For information on how to register for the event and reserve tickets, click here.


Le Français en Ecosse - Comenius courses

The LFEE has launched its courses for Easter 2011. Primary teachers Course 1: Teaching French in the Primary School Saturday 26 March – Friday 1 April 2011 Lyon 60 max. Primary teachers Course 2: Teaching French in the Primary School Saturday 2 April – Friday 8 April 2011 Lyon 60 max. Primary teachers Course 3: Teaching French in the Primary School Saturday 9 April - Friday 15 April 2011 Lyon 60 max. Secondary teachers Course A: Teaching French in the Secondary School Saturday 16 April - Friday 22 April 2011 Lyon 60 max.

All participants receive support from the European Union COMENIUS Lifelong Learning Programme available through Leargas.

The closing date for applications is September 15

Scholarships for teachers to France

Application forms are now available for teachers who want to be considered for scholarships at the summer in-service courses in the Université de Franche-Comté, Besançon. There are two dates: 5 to 16 July and 2 to 13 August. The in-service course offered will enable teachers to upskill themselves both linguistically and pedagogically in addition to affording them opportunities to engage in French cultural activities and to work with other Irish teachers of French.

The closing date for applications is May 10th.

New Ways to Remember Fontenoy - The Professionalization of Soldiering in 18th Century France

This seminar is being delivered by Professor Hervé Drévillon under the auspices of the Centre for War Studies and funded with support from the Trinity Long Room Hub and the French Embassy in Dublin. Franco - Irish Literary Festival

The annual event takes place at venues in Dublin Castle on April 16, 17 & 18. Features public readings (with translation) and discussions.

European Language Label 2010 & Language Ambassador

The European Language Label recognises creative and inventive ways to improve the quality of language teaching and learning. The annual award, which is coordinated by the European Commission, is managed in Ireland by Léargas. Examples and descriptions of previous winning projects can be found on the Léargas website: http://www.leargas.ie/ell
 
Schools, colleges, universities, businesses and other institutions engaged in language initiatives are invited to apply. Applications should be innovative, effective and replicable.
 
The priorities for 2010 are:
 
• Language Learning in the Community
• Language Skills for Work
• Languages and the Arts
 
These priorities are not exclusive and applications from all kinds of language projects are welcome.

Language Ambassador

There will also be an individual European Language Label in 2010, the Language Ambassador of the Year. This will be awarded to a person in the formal or non-formal sector, who has encouraged language learning in the community or created an awareness of languages in society.
 
Applications by 31 March 2010.
