Radió na Gaeltachta 1916 competition

RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta is inviting secondary schools across the country to send in proposals for radio programmes on the theme of 1916.

The invitation relates to a competition that forms part of the station’s centenary programming schedule for next year, with a prize of €1000 up for grabs.

There are two stages to the competition.

Firstly, secondary schools across the country, north and south, are invited to submit proposals for a 30 minute radio programme in Irish on the theme of the 1916 Easter Rising by 7 December.

The second stage sees five of the best proposals being selected, and a radio producer will work with those schools to produce the programmes, for broadcast in spring 2016. The best overall programme will be awarded €1000.

Judges will be looking for programmes that are imaginative and innovative.

This programme is being run with support from the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.

The competition presents a wonderful opportunity for pupils to learn about the Rising, its impact on the country, and its importance in 2016 while also improving their Irish.
